brutal ice storm! never went thru one when i lived in austin. just those pesky tornado warnings and the phenomenal lightning storms... there is nothing like a texas lightning storm, at least in austin when i was there. love the video, as usual. have you written much with others via zoom, kv? for some reason when i'm forced to stop..... or pause for a time (car break down, or extended airport wait) i often find a peace (when frustration is the expected usual) in the letting go of control or something. just to pause and appreciate what's around me, be grateful for what is... at that moment. the moment is a great focus to remember, when one remembers to. xxjim (mt would sign his messages to me like that too)

Hi- I certainly commiserate with these problems and am al too familiar living in Texas. I’m in Nashville for 3 days for a job, an event, and rehearsing with 3 people for the event. I don’t think I will have time for anything else!

Hey Kathy! This could be a wild shot in the dark and maybe I shouldn’t post it here but I’m not necessarily right in the head anyways. I suppose it’s a strange quirk of fate that the Tennessee House Criminal Justice Subcommittee is meeting at the very moment you are going to be starting your gig at Grimey’s. Why do I mention this? Wellllllll. They are considering an amendment to the Obscenity and Pornography section of Tn Code Annotated Title 7 Chapter 51 Part 14. The bill they are considering is HB 0009 which seeks to criminalize a person who engages in an adult cabaret performance in public property or in a location where the performance could be viewed by children.

Why is this important you ask? Well in my neck of the woods here in Tennessee there are drag shows (tame one’s mind you) that are part of the Knox Pride Festival which is held in the month of October in Worlds Fair park in Knoxville-a public park. Long story short Knox Pride will have to cancel the festival if this piece of legislation makes it out of the subcommittee because the legislators in this state will vote it into law. The law can be interpreted in a way that can do more than criminalize drag shows, thus Knox Prides hesitancy to go on with the festival.

I don’t know man, it’s probably silly of me to ask if you might want to throw some support to the LGBTQ community of Tennessee while you’re in Nashville. I’m nobody’s spokesperson on this issue, I’m just an aspiring social worker that is pissed of at the continual injustices heaped on the have nots of this state. But I’m sure you are well aware of the current political climate concerning the LGBTQ community across the US. If you made it this far thank you so much for reading and if you need to delete this gibberish I get it.

I've been listening to Sirius radio and of course the Belinda mad about music series. But I mainly listen to the covers channel. Songs that I and everyone knows and love but by other artists. In a different style. What Songs would you choose to cover? In a Kathy style. And why. Top 3.

Is there a song that you wrote and then thought about rewriting? ...

great question Renel, yes I have done it often. I think of my songs like little properties, that can be redone, updated, chopped up and given to other songs. i've redone both "Beneath the BLue Sky" - added verses, and "Can't Stop the World" - added new words, from my known songs, and have often used bits and pieces from unknown songs. 'The Whole World Lost it's Head" the music was entirely from a different song I wrote!

Oh, the cracks of the breaking limbs and the crashing as they fell to the ground. Yikes. Last week was tough. I feel for the folks that are still dealing with lack of power. Glad you made it through. My friend Spring also had the solar-powered garden light epiphany a couple of days into her power outage and was equally aggravated that she didn’t think of bringing them inside immediately. :-)

well sadly I don't think we've seen the last of power outages, so I'll be more ready next time!

Cura te in Latin is a self healing term, like take care. Cuida te! Hurry in Latin is apriso. Apriso to stop and love yourself and everyone else.

I am happy to have found and signed up for this blog and relate to what you are writing in spite of different life experiences, maybe it’s from also being a young kid in the 60’s or enjoying much of the same music? Looking forward to following your stories… regards from NJ Lou

I'm definitely gonna check out Badreads, sounds like my cup of tea, so to speak. I won't get into a whole spiel about it, but for a while let's just say I had to live off the land with very little outside help except for one person. I love listening to the process of how someone goes about making a song, but then I think to myself, I kind of wish I understood more myself how to do things in a technical way versus a way that some people scratch their heads at. My mother, who read some music but mostly played by ear had a unique talent. If she had a song she had to play and the key was rather difficult and only had a couple days to learn it, she would transpose it in her head to a different key knock it out in an hour or so. Then go back later and learn it slowly in the original key, she did this all without writing anything down and I guess that's kind of how I've instinctively developed my talents. She would get criticism at times from people who didn't understand that sometimes Talent comes by Instinct alone. I apologize for going on about my mother so much, it's getting very close to the anniversary of her passing and I tend to get very reflective and very sad even though she passed away 29 years ago this month, on the 14th no less. But thanks to her, I have a creative Outlet

Your "E" garden is going to force me to revisit Tempus Fugit by Yes, a song which I feel is their magnum opus.

As a horticulturalist I really enjoyed your day on the property. There's never loss in landscaping, do not fret over that unpicked pile of branches, think of them as a new shelter for a myriad of insects.
