That's pretty cool. If I'd seen something like this, and it matched my color scheme, I would've bought it. I was thinking it would be like a "sip'n'paint" kinda thing where the "guitar" was the subject for the night. LOL

Nice to catch up with your writing... which is always so inspiring, word-wise. You have such a pleasant and hopeful way of seeing the world and people... there's a magnetism there. and when a pleasant, magnetic person explains their thinking and feelings in print for others to read... it's always an enriching, positive experience. so, thank you KV. I just adore your writing. your spirit. 🙏

Left behind a Warhol and a Liebowitz?! Shoot, maybe we can't be friends. Am like you, painting doesn't do anything for me like writing does... though I see a bit of Jean-Michel Basquiat in Career Builder. Send me your address and I'll ship you some things from Santa Fe for your walls!! ;0)

I dig ‘career builder’~ there’s a depth to it & the textures create cool motion & it has that little “wink” from the text. I think you’re spot on~ you can’t force art. Making it, curating it, any of it. My very favorite thing in life is finding inspiration in the mundane~ things others would never even stop to notice: puddles, a cool crack in the pavement, fallen sticks & leaves, doorways, graffiti, happenstance combinations of unexpected colors, materials, and textures… nothing like it! Art is everywhere & nowhere.

I try to create every day, but if I’m not feeling it or I hate what I’m doing (which is a lot!! hard to fight the instinct toward perfectionism 😵‍💫), I let it go.

Keep creating!! Play & have fun with it~ Bob Ross was onto something with his, “happy accidents”; sometimes fck ups blossom 🩷 & keep curating!! I love the approach of just gathering what makes you happy~ whether it’s a Warhol or something you randomly find while wandering. I love mixing in quirky, campy pieces or things like music memorabilia, too. It’s the best!! Enjoy the process 🥰🥰

I like “Career Builder” - it could have been both an album cover and title!

I really like your painting! I'm glad your friend Melessa convinced you to take a picture. I wonder who will end up with the painting?... little will they know it was painted by a Rock N Roll Hall of Famer! :)

I don't envy the chore of packing and moving, esp., to another country. I wouldn't even know where to start. I've been in the same dwelling since 1989. Even moving across town would be overwhelming for me!

Happy Birthday, and good luck with everything. Can't wait to read more dispatch stories! :)

Another laugh. Maybe. I was driving to work when I got a call from +44 (UK). this was BC (before coffee). I wondered for a split second why you were calling and how you got my number. Then I remembered I have a customer in Gloucester. It was my customer.

Someone once said that art is in the eye of the beholder. What one believes is a masterpiece may seem like trash to another. I think that's right. The same can be said about your ex. Painting brings him joy while it seems to bring you frustration. Creating music/writing seems to bring you joy and fulfillment. What we, as humans, find joy in is what makes the world interesting. 🙂

When you say "farewell" shows with The Bluebonnets, will you guys no longer be performing as a band?

I hope all goes well while you are in England. I know you will find wonderful pieces to fill your empty walls.

Welcome to England! I'm sure you'll find plenty of surprising opportunities to fill in the various blank spaces over the coming months.

Whether writing or painting – or creating any type of work – I'm definitely someone who needs a routine. I can't go about things in an ad hoc sort of way. Going at something from the position of not knowing isn't where I like to operate from either. It would be much easier if that weren't the case, as the challenge of starting out with something specific in mind can be quite daunting, as one has to be prepared to suffer the consequences of failure more often than not – at least in terms of not matching one's hopes or expectations.

This morning, like most, my routine started with the act of making a pot of coffee and going to my laptop, checking emails, and then rereading the intro of the history book I'm writing for the umpteenth time, looking for repetitions and places where I can economise on words, reworking problematic sentences or paragraphs that don't quite work, or flow how I want them to. Or rethinking presentation and how to reshuffle chapters for the hundredth time.

I'm currently at 124,000 words, or 399 pages, which need to be radically edited down, as I still have chapters that need finishing. I could never do any of this without sticking to a routine.

At around 11am I'll go back upstairs, make my bed and tidy up. And if it's sunny I'll go outside and do some of the chores I've been promising myself (and my neighbours) that I'd get done months ago.

Oh! And by the way, a belated 'Happy Birthday' to you. I'll be 63 at the end of the month, so I'm also constantly aware of the rapid passing of time. The great thing about it is that we still have stuff we want to do, even though we realise time is starting to run short on doing them all.

Anyway Kathy, I hope you have an enoyable trip back to Austin and the Bluebonnets gig goes well.
