Nice, we’ve got some commonality, I moved to Austin in 1975, my beautiful shepherd named Brandy was with me at Sunday Break, not having money I got creative, a smily face stamp used on top of hand to enter and leave event, so I stood outside and drew with a dime a circle, made a face with marks a lot and got people in for half the cost of a ticket. Concert was fabulous, then proceeded to collect beer and soda cans for recycling. The fun times! Found my calling as an Austin Firefighter in 1985-2012! Oh, fell in love with Patrice Pike at Saxton Pub, her eyes and beautiful voice alone the way. Grand kids up in Port Townsend, we moved to Whidbey Island, I built a nice house for us to live in. Love your thoughts

I love that excerpt from the memoir....also the "reason" for becoming a musician lol

Ian and I are howling over your rusty flirting skills.

I haven't been online reading Substack, due to crazy life reasons... and am only now learning you truly are moving overseas. I believe your openness and flexibility in life will lead to wonderful moments you could never imagine. Plus, you'll have new experiences to write about.

Funny you should mention Steve Marriott. My friend King Cotton recently gave me a story he wrote for me to read, all about his friendship with the wild and talented Mr. Marriott.

Anyway, thanks, again, for opening up and sharing your life and thoughts.

Thanks for a wonderful inside look at the life of a rock star. I was a huge Go-Gos fan back on the day, had the skirts and the big jewelry although I resisted super-teased hair. I wanted to marry Shaun Cassidy rather than Peter Frampton. Although the latter was a looker, pretty features and all. Not sure what I'd do if I met him now. Maybe thank him for being one of the kinder voices on Twitter. Or flirt with him talking about the joys of senior discounts at the drugstore lol.

Just found your Substack and am thrilled! Love your writing-- this post reflecting many of my thoughts when I packed up and left ATX for Detroit during COVID. The timing seemed right. But you can’t fully appreciate the Austin live music scene until you’ve checked out. I do miss it, but Detroit is proving to be an incredible artistic melting pot that just needs some PR to jumpstart it. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on London. Cheerio!

Youth is wasted on the young as they say but as someone who never reached the heights that you did and sold out passion for reason and family I ve got no regrets . As Carson would say “ do you read books” could be a better opening line. Thanks for the article it took me back to my youth for a minute

Just saw this. I'm in a similar situation. My daughter who lives in New England just gave me my first grandchild. And my son just moved out. Both in the same month (August).

I've been slowly packing my stuff, but I need to find a job out there first. But I figure if I keep slowly packing (mostly books...I have over 600 of them...including yours :)), providence will take over and everything will fall into place when it's supposed to.

I think the older you get (I just turned 60), the more you realize just how much you don't control. Anyways, I wish you good luck on your next stop on your journey. My bucket list is to make a trip back (I was in London once in 1984) and go to Liverpool. I am a Beatles fanatic!!

Take care.

Thank you Kathy for a both deep and simplistic age appropriate article! I'm 60; in college I had to balance my enjoyment of the Go-Go's songs with pretending I didn't care. Ha! In recent years I've watched the Go-Go's documentary, pulled my old album back out, watched interviews with Belinda Carlisle (still have a crush on her) and read this fun Substack article by you. All The Best to you.

Hi Kathy!

Hope the surgery went well.

I can relate to the packing and organizing freeze frame. My basement needs organized desperately. But every time I go down there I sort of spin slowly around, get overwhelmed and go back upstairs. I did manage to space bag some stuff. But hey, gives us something to look forward to later!

Good luck with everything!

Was just in Austin (used to live there in the 80’s-90’s) and saw Jon Dee Graham at the Continental Club. Great stuff, great town. David Grissom is definitely amazing.

I saw Peter Frampton a few years ago from tickets I won from a radio station. I took my ex-girlfriend who claimed to not know who he was, if you believe it.

Thank you for sharing your Peter Frampton story. Mine was Leon Russell - never was able to meet him. But did stand right by the stage at Armadillo World Headquarters once to watch him play piano. His hands were so beautiful. I have an obsession with rock and roll piano players.

You should hire a packing company. 😊 🕊💙📚🎶

Thanks for sharing! I love it! I was in the teen idol bop category when it came to pictures/posters hung up on my teenage bedroom walls during 1976-78: Shaun Cassidy, Leif Garrett, Osmonds, Bay City Rollers, KISS, Rex Smith, AND Peter Frampton too! He was "dreamy" LOL. I remember my friends and I would "rewind" on the turntable the part of his song where he sang "I really want to fuck you..." with that guitar talk box thing!!

I LMAO at your "I think my flirting skills are a bit rusty." OMG! That was seriously funny! :)

So glad you had a nice experience and got to hang out with him again! It was great to see him perform on the recent RNRHOF Ceremony.

BTW as I'm typing this, I just downloaded Dolly Parton's just released album, Rockstar, and "Baby I Love Your Way" featuring Peter is playing! :)

Hey darlin'. Love it! I got to see Peter once in a green room, bcuz live nation sux and won't let the hands watch shows from FOH anymore! Her sounded great! I too STILL have 2 copies of Comes Alive. On album. 😉 My ex GF owned a recording studio in NYC in the 80's. She said he was kinda a dick. But, he's a big rock star stud and can be that way. Power to him!

I hope you have an easy move to the UK. Love you KV. Peace and love. Happy holidays. Sending kisses to you Mom. 🌹😎✌🏼

What a great morning read - thanks for sharing all this. Today's chuckle, of course, "At one point I turned to him and told him I’d spent hours that day signing up for Medicare. I think my flirting skills are a bit rusty." HAHA!

Oh my god, I love that you were medicare-flirting with my childhood dream husband Peter Frampton?! I was lying in bed reading this and just almost dropped my laptop on my face...I was so shocked, lol 😂 Luckily, it's one of those tiny MacBook Airs otherwise I could have chipped a damn tooth(!) and I don't think Medicare covers that?? But I'm SO gonna use the sign-up hell during my next attempt at oldster flirting... such a gem indeed.
