When I look back on my life I see how I’ve been driven with a single-minded force to connect with people. Textbook case of an isolated and lonely childhood. Being in a band felt like the family I’d always longed for, while playing music, writing songs, making records, and performing was a vast connection on many levels.

Writing a book that revealed so much about my past was both healing and reached others in an entirely new and deeper way. It’s led to some speaking gigs that have brought me into even closer proximity with people—no instrument, no internet between us. Family, motherhood, friends—everything I work for and try to keep takes the edge off that alone-ness that seems to be always waiting for a chance to say “hey, you’ve run out of options, I win.”

By subscribing, we are entering into a very loose contract, but one I take seriously. I’ll stay connected to you as long as you like and do my very best to write these dispatches with skill, honesty, effort, and care. Your end of the bargain? Just be a link, a connection. Open and read. If you start really enjoying, share with someone else or become a paid subscriber with some extra goodies now and then!

Love, KV
