i always see phrases that pop as song titles to me in your writings for some reason. "a reflection of me" "leaving blood on the page". yeah, the age appropriateness topic is interesting. taken on a case by case basis certainly. a person in the arts has fewer limitations, or could depending on the art and surroundings. when it comes to singing songs, there could be more thought put into it i guess. depends who you ask. iggy pop? probably sings everything he ever sang. but, the stones stopped playing brown sugar live. i think it 100% depends on the comfort level of the artist doing the expressing. i did that too with alot of my catching up posts comments, here.... write write write.... delete delete delete. lol OMG Center Of The Universe f-ing ROCKS. Love that. Love this post.

I have a feeling that you’ll be onto a next thing sooner or later. And valid points about all thise major life events. Also on top of that, Austin has changed, so these chance encounters of creatives meeting, does it happen like it used to? I think it does. Maybe at Eeyore’s birthday party - (last Sat in April)

Another indefinite hiatus can be scary. I’ve had to reinvent myself multiple times post-music biz so I can relate, at least to the uncertainty. (And now, I’m an expert at it, so there’s that. )

I wish you the very best, KV. Holla if I can help ...

My dad was in a Tejano band. His name was Raul. The band name was "La Leyenda Mexicana." He recorded this 45"single that I sold in elementary school for 50 cents. I now have the only one vinyl single of my dad with me. I remember buying a CD out of the trunk of your car in Austin. So what was the first song that wrote?

Listening to the Stones covering the temptations just now. What songs from both you growing up with your dad and mom do you remember the most? And that's maybe a hard one for me to answer for myself.

John Irving spoke of the “writer’s voice” -- that personalized style that is in synch with a story’s narration. You’re doubly blessed to have the writer’s voice and, of course, the musical voice (vocally and instrumentally). Can’t speak for others, but I’m here because not only what you say but how you say it. Your thoughts matter and are impactful. Wishing you the best day.

Ondine here, and right there with Emily. This all really resonates with me. Thank you for sharing your journey.

So much of this is relatable~ especially grief and not having a partner and experiencing a sort of: “ok, now what??” in regards to trying to build community. It’s tough and can seem so daunting. Appreciate you sharing your experience. Helps me (and I’m sure a lot of others) not feel so alone.

Well, ok. I finally subscribed. I was going to spend that $50 on some Godiva chocolate, but I figure you can provide me with more good stuff, which lasts longer, and with much fewer calories. I really do enjoy your writing!

Writing is a muscle that needs to be exercised. You’ve got the gift. Whatever you write is appreciated. The main thing is not to feel pressure to provide content. There are no deadlines with creativity.

I keep thinking of being in flux. I’m coming up on the fifth anniversary of losing my Mom, who really was my Terra Firma, and while her death was not unexpected, it’s thrown me off kilter. It’s weirdly comforting to know that what I’m feeling isn’t unique to me, as I’m also guilty of being “the center of the universe” as well. So, I’m doing what I want to, and moving forward, because it’s all I can do. And eventually, the flux will spin me into the right direction. As yours is doing as well.

I know that you have done those covers and they were awesome. But what other songs dig deep into Kathy? What made you Kathy Valentine the hall of famer? I know of your influences but what songs do you remember of growing up that you would recreate. Any song?
